Success Insights — Capability Cannot Be Appropriated. It Must Be Developed.

It has been years of building your capability through learning and growing from your mistakes. Accepting responsibility, developing judgment and strengthening your character.

Slowly, almost unnoticed, your results began to reflect who you had become. Then something interesting happened. Someone wanted what you had not by walking the road you walked but via a shortcut.

Nothing had changed about the person. Only the position had changed. Yet the expectation was that the outcomes would somehow remain the same.

At first, it can feel confusing.

Why would someone think that just having the power to do it, gives them not only the right but also the ability to acquire the visible results in the absence of the invisible process which produced it?

Then I realised something.

They simply did not understand what it took to attain the results they wanted. A position can be transferred.  Capability cannot.

They were trying to separate the results from their source.

They wanted the Omega…

without adopting the Alpha.

Production flows from becoming.  Possession alone cannot sustain it.

The longer I observe people, organisations and leadership, the more convinced I become that this rarely works for long.

Outcomes do not sustain themselves.  Not influence, not trust, not leading effectively.  Once the effort taken to attain them stops, they disappear.

Every day, the visible continues to depend on the invisible which produced it.

Perhaps that is why so many people inherit positions but struggle to sustain performance.

Or inherit authority but fail to earn trust.

Or inherit success but cannot reproduce it.

Maybe the greatest mistake is believing we can possess what we have never become capable of producing.

Reflect & Apply

1️⃣ Which outcomes do you most admire in others but do not possess yourself?

2️⃣ What behaviours made those outcomes possible?

3️⃣ Which part of your own Alpha deserves more attention to produce your desired Omega?

The greatest asset was never the outcome. It was the person who had become capable of producing it.

I help leaders develop the awareness, clarity and capability to become the kind of person who can consistently produce the outcomes they seek.

Because your success is my business.

Courageously,
